Bringing together key industry, employer and community representative to identify priorities and opportunities for employment and economic development in their region.

Providing advice and feedback to the Minister and the Department on employment and training needs in the region and the Impact of Commonwealth policies and programmes on the regional labour market.
 




We are an incorporated organisation under the Office of Fair Trading. Membership is opened to anyone residing in the Torres Strait & NPA Region and is formally accepted at a monthly management meeting.

 PRIMARY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

 
Promoting Business and Economic interests in the region
Encouraging and facilitating networks and advisory bodies
Helping to identify partners through personal liason and other communication links
Supporting the communities and Community Organisations in the region to develop and initiate their priorities
Identifying and funding partners to support project proposals
Liasing with government and business agencies and staging business development and training events
Communicating essential information to key stakeholders
TORRES STRAIT / NORTHERN PENINSULA AREA - AREA CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE HAS:
 
A seven person Management Committee, consisting of Minister appointed Chair and Deputy Chair, representing key areas such as Industry / Businesses, Training, Regional Servicing, Local Government, and Regional Development and are responsible for setting strategic directions and corporate governance.
The staff consists of the Management Committee, Executive Officer, Administration/Finance Officer, School-Based Office Trainee and currently no Project Officer.
Network links to 55 other Area Consultative Committee regions as well as a Regional Office of DOTARS based in Townsville and a National Office based in Canberra..

Our office has now been relocated to the Commonwealth Centre, Cnr Victoria Parade & Hastings Street, Thursday Island. Our postal, phone and fax numbers remain the same.
